The Drama of a Teacher
Today I had an interesting encounter with a student. I’m not going to bore you with the details,
because that’s not the point of me writing this. My point is to give you a new
perspective on how to handle things.
In today’s society, I don’t understand how students PEOPLE can disrespect other human beings. I
don’t care WHO you are, you don’t treat other people with disrespect. Everyone
is a human being. Why do we treat others as if they are “less” than us? WE ARE
EQUALS. At the end of the day, when you look in the mirror, how are you above
others? Because you have more money? You have a huge house? You’re popular on Instagram?
…… Well, do any of those materialistic things make you a better human being?
Most likely not. Unless you’re giving
most of your money to charity, letting homeless people live it your house, and
your Instagram is focusing on the good of others… then ok fine, you’re a better
human being… anyway to my point..
Here’s what happened,
I had a student say
F*** you to me.
When I read it, I had multiple ways I could have responded.
- Be my teacher self, email parents, tell the vp, and talk to this student in my class.
- Be so frustrated I just lash out at the student & give a consequence for their actions.
- Let it go.
Honestly, at the end of the day, I don’t care you said that
phrase to me… why?
I have a husband who
genuinely loves me. I have a baby boy who is so excited to see me EVERY time I walk
through the door. I have a family who genuinely cares about my success, my
goals & my life. I have support from family, friends, colleagues, & neighbors.
At the end of the day, I can think back at ONE thing you
said to me and be destroyed by it. OR I can say to myself, “I did everything in
my power to be a good person—and now it’s all on you; my hands are clean”. And
then, my life moves on.
So whatever you are going through, whether someone is
bullying you, disrespecting you, or simply being rude. IGNORE them. You are a
better person to say to yourself “I am loved, I am worth it, I am enough”. Be
the best YOU that you can, & if people won’t accept you, I WILL!!!!!!
I challenge you to apologize to someone you wronged, bullied, disrespected, or were down right rude to. Start over. Be you. Be kind to others. Know that you are loved, you are worth it, and you are enough!! & for pete’s sake, make other’s feel the same way.
