The Sixth Sense

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to go to the beautiful Kamas UT and ride horses with one of my brothers mission companions (Cody).  We met him at his parents’ house and drove up the mountains a bit to the trail to start our ride.  It took a few minutes to get the horses all ready with the everything  situated just right for kev and I.   My horses was named Oagey, he was so beautiful.  As we were about to head out,  Cody informed us that they brought the horses to the same trail yesterday so that they would know what they were doing and would be familiar with the trail. (so cute right?)
I got on, and automatically fell in love, I’m a country girl. We all got in a line with our horses- Cody-Kev-Me-and the Uncle. ( I forgot his name :/) We started, and it was BEAUTIFUL!!!! The trees were as green as can be and the mountain looked like it was made for horseback riding. At the beginning of the trail I was making the conscious effort to really guide the horse well, and make sure he was going the way that I wanted him to go.  Whenever there was a hill, he had a tendency to run up them.  At first, I hated that,  I would always make him slow down.  When it was really rocky, I would try to lead him in a way that he wouldn’t slip on the rocks.  More than half of the time he would even get off the path and go “off roading”.  At one point on the trail there was a tree that was horizontal across the trail, and I had no idea if he was going to jump or just step.

Halfway through I realized something- my horse had the Sixth Sense.  He knew which way to go to make sure it was a smooth ride. He knew that running up the hill was so much easier for him than to walk up slowly.  He knew which rock to step on so he didn’t slip, granted  there was a few times he did, but he picked himself right up with his other 3 legs.  He knew that at some points it was better to get off the trail than to stay on it.  He knew how to precisely step over the log tree that was across the trail so we could continue on our way to the top.

Once we got to the top, I realized that I needed to trust this horse with everything I had inside me.  So what did I do? I let the reins down ever so slightly, so he knew that I trusted him. He also knew that I was in control,  so at any time if I wanted to stop him, he would still listen.  Then something else hit me……

It’s the same with God.  He knows which way you should go for the smoothest ride, but takes you "off roading" sometimes just to test your mettle.  He knows that taking you up hills can frighten you, but sometimes its the best thing for you. Once you start running up hills, it’s more enjoyable and the pain gets more bearable, plus he knows it’s a lot easier. He knows which rocks you need to slip on, so you can know what you need to work on. After you slip, he wants you to always catch yourself, and get back up and be cautious of slipping on that for the next time. Sometimes he wants you to go off your normal path to find out which one you like better. He knows how  you need to to step over big trees(trials) so you can keep moving on your path.
Show God you are willing to trust him. In order for you to reach your full potential, you need to let the reins down ever so slightly, and be in control of your life.

I was talking to one of my best friends the other day about the future and how sometimes it's just not what we planned. I saw this picture and wanted to share it with all of you.  We are constantly worrying about the future, but the truth is, the future is never what we expect it to be. We have control of our own lives. Make sure you trust in yourself and God, and you’re future will be AMAZING. Live life to the fullest.

My challenge to you: Let the reins down. Trust yourself and God with everything inside of your being- control the life you want to have.  Smile.
