Better today than tomorrow....

Today as I was finishing my lesson, looking back on 9/11 with my class, I realized that each and every day we have the opportunity to become better--- in some way, shape or form. So I challenged my class the most simple thing, which is....... DO something each and everyday to make your life and other's lives BETTER!!!! I asked my students before they left the room to tell me ONE thing they were going to be better at today. Their responses were more beautiful than you could imagine...

"I'm going to tell my mom and dad I love them more"

"I'm going to be nicer to my sister" ( I asked this person if he/she had any other siblings to be nice to,, and their reply was, "She's the only one that frustrates me". HAHAH

"I'm going to be more positive"

"I'm going to smile at people"

"I'm going to be nice to those people that I'm only acquaintances with"

"I'm going to clean my room and do my chores so my mom is happy"

"I'm going to be a better friend"

"I'm going to be nicer to people"

On a day like today 9/11, this is exactly what I needed to hear. Watching videos and remembering moments of heartbreak and sadness, and a feeling the world is so cruel and evil; these kids stopped my sadness, heartbreak and anger at the people who caused such turmoil, and made me realize--- THERE IS GOOD IN THE WORLD. Each and everyday we need to get up and say "I will be better today, and this is how I'm going to do so".

Set a goal. Be better today than tomorrow.
